when the day comes to a close
and the lights start to dim
when darkness begins to engulfs
people scurry back into their den

shutting themselves off
in the comfort of artificial light,
unable to face the darkness
they sleep the pain away;

like glass windows,
when the sun is shining
everything is rosy;
everyone sparkle with joy;

when the light fades away,
the smile changes to a frown
fear takes over and
drives them away;

dark and gloomy all around
the sun long set in my horizon
i stand here all alone and
watch them hide from themselves;

brave enough to accept my mistakes;
courageous to battle my emotional demons;
i stand here in darkness
under the beacon light
that shines from inside me!

with hope and confidence
lighting my path in the darkness
i stand here, waiting to be first one
to welcome the awakening of the morning!
