Happy Anniversary
your hands know the way to morning coffee,
steam rising like our shared dreams do,
twenty years and still you hum that song,
the one you always loved so much;
I watch you through the kitchen doorway,
sunlight catching silver in your hair,
remembering when we were both so young,
thinking love was just the butterflies;
now i know it’s in the way you fold,
my shirts next to yours in the same drawer,
how you save the last piece of chocolate,
always for me without asking why;
our anniversary comes with gentle warmth,
the same month we promised everything,
your laugh still catches me off guard,
like discovering gold in river sand;
today we will share the morning paper again,
like we have for all these years,
watching clouds drift by in silence,
knowing we already have it all;
